Ecological Services
We provide services covering all aspects of ecological impact assessment and mitigation, from advising clients on biodiversity planning policies and legislation and conducting protected species surveys through to detailed ecological mitigation planning and implementation, and full assessment and consultancy advice for Ecohomes / BREEAM Code assessments.
Our staff are dedicated professionals with experience in working on a range of local, national and international projects for a diverse client base. When necessary, we are able to supplement our in-house capabilities, by working with a network of specialist external consultants and academics in order to offer the best possible service to our clients. Specifically, Harrison Group Environmental Consulting offer the following ecological services:
- Habitat surveys, including classification of habitats following the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) Phase 1 Habitat Classification, hedgerow surveys, ditch surveys and initial site assessments suitable for the Code for Sustainable Homes.
- Protected species surveys, for the following groups; great crested newts, reptiles, water voles, white-clawed crayfish, bats, barn owls and wild birds.
- Mitigation for the potential impacts of development including advice on timing of development work, ecological supervision of site works and translocation of protected species.
- Ecohomes ecological assessments; We provide all necessary surveys, strategic consultancy advice and project management input to assist developers to maximize the ecological credits available within the Ecohomes / BREEAM code schemes. To be eligible for some or all of the ecological credits within the code the developer must: makes efficient use of the development site; detail specifically how any important ecological features on the site will be protected; incorporate habitat enhancement into the design of the project; at all stages, take into account the aims of the local and national Biodiversity Action Plan and manage the project to meet some of these aims; liaise with local people and conservation groups and incorporate their views on biodiversity into the project.
- Environmental Impact Assessment of proposed developments on ecological receptors including protected species, Biodiversity Action Plan habitats and sites of national and international conservation importance, such as SSSIs, SPAs and SACs.
- Habitat creation to conserve the conservation status of a protected species, compensate for the loss of habitat or to enhance the ecological value of a site.
- Consultation, on behalf of our Clients, with statutory authorities, such as Natural England and the Environment Agency and conservation organisations such as local wildlife trusts and the RSPB.
