Site Investigation and Assessment of Municpal Landfill - Norfolk
Before 1885 this site was a clay pit associated with a brick works. It then became a municipal landfill before being closed in the 1970s.
Harrison Group have carried out a number of investigations on the site dating back to 1991. These have been done following a request to investigate patterns in the ground gas regime and in order to consider the risk to occupants of buildings adjacent to the site and by using current guidance, propose a future monitoring strategy. Plans for the development of the site are being considered.

Scope of Work
The Harrison Group has carried out a varied programme of investiagtion on the site. This has included: -
- Desk study to develop conceptual model of the site and identify potential source areas, migration pathways, sensitive receptors and potential viable pollutant linkages.
- Intrusive site investigation with the drilling of deep boreholes to penetrate the chalk aquifer
- Installation of a large number of borehole gas monitoring locations
- Groundwater and leachate Ground gas risk assessment to the buildings around the perimeter of the site - fitting of gas alarms to buildings
- Long term ground gas monitoring - weekly over a 6 monthly period.
Recommendations:
From the results obtained to date the following has been proposed: -
- Long term monitoring of boreholes at the site with monitoring at 6 monthly intervals
- Extend ground gas risk asessment
- Further examination of buildings adjacent to the site
