Assessment of Historical Chalk Workings - Norfolk
Harrison Geotechnical Engineering was employed by a national house builder to assess the extent of chalk workings below a site proposed for development. Geophysical surveying was used as an initial tool and the suspect areas were probed utilising a 'curtain' of probes to pinpoint the extent of the workings.
The findings enabled us to provide detailed mapping of the workings and to make an assessment of the volume of the voids. This allowed economic design of the grouting of the voids and the client altered the layout of the site to incorporate the poor ground conditions.
