Harrison Group Environmental has been contracted by the Children's Services department of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to undertake Licensed BREEAM assessments and ecological work to gain credits for 7 schools across the borough, under the BREEAM Schools scheme. The overall aim is to help the schools achieve enough credits to receive a 'Very Good' rating as a funding requirement, as well as provide the ecological information required for the planning applications.

The specific scope of work involves: -

• A series of meetings and phone calls with the Design Teams to ensure that the strategy for achieving the desired BREEAM rating is formulated for the most cost-effective outcome
• Preparing a checklist of information requirements for the assessment prepared. This document ensures that the design team provides all necessary information to the Assessor and that all elements of the checklist have been complied with before the Assessment Meeting
• Ecological surveys of the schools to assess their ecological value
• Calculating the changes in the ecological value of the sites that will result from their development
• Consultation with Tower Habitats, the biodiversity partnership for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets
• Registering the developments with The BRE
• Consultation with pupils and staff to incorporate their views into the design process
• Recommendations issued for the enhancement of the biodiversity of the schools
• Draft and final reports compiled based on the BREEAM assessment and the information provided by the design team. The final report sent to the BRE for QA purposes. Following approval, the BRE will issue the appropriate certificate directly to the client, which will be used for completion and funding purposes
